So great is the squad depth at Wythenshawe, he had his debut at full-back.

"That's a little unusual but then, I love running and just move forward - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I warn my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"That movement is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

'Surreal Scenario

Along with the forward's six scores on his first game, Ireland has scored 8 in 3 games for the side, while Boyd scored five on his first appearance and Joleon Lescott, a defender by trade, notched a triple in one game as a striker.

The team are leading of the Top Tier with three wins from three and a goal difference of plus nineteen.

"We really haven't stopped talking about it - I was phoning my mother and sibling on the way home.

"The opponents were all friendly, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a group of normal fellas.

"Now we are eager for the return match."
