It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a side that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over five decades.

It is hard for their hitters to hold a record if never given the possibility.

In the end, the result of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy being given a platform to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her bow and seven world titles have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this performance came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in training, it has been a disappointing period because it seemed I've had no rhythm whatsoever," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your fighting spirit take over and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the batsman was underway.

"The possibility to go out there and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, somewhat inspired me," stated Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was dismissed the team required another 66 at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the assurance to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if we do, we know we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing rival teams at this tournament want to hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will win from any position has become more firm - this success succeeding win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she wished she had played through the pain.

Yet even as she later admitted those physical issues have delayed plans to retire, this tournament is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as captain.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
